London, 15 May 2019: Speaking ahead of this week’s Japan Gaming Conference (JgC) Scientific Games Asia VP and managing director Ken Jolly has outlined his expectations for the emerging market.
On day two (Friday) of this week’s conference Jolly will speak about how to create a casino fit for the Japanese market, alongside 2NT8 Limited managing director Alidad Tash, Konami Senior VP and chief systems product officer Tom Soukup and Greenberg Traurig shareholder Mark Clayton.
Jolly believes Japan has the potential to become one of the top three IR marketplaces in the world by revenue.
He said the supplier would be developing games that take inspiration from the country’s Pachinko obsession and apply it to the mechanics of traditional slot games in a bid to appeal to local tastes and trends.
Jolly added that the broad appeal of Pachinko in Japan suggests that there will be a similarly widespread appetite among locals to take part in more traditional forms of gaming.
Add that to the anticipated boom in tourism over the next half a decade and the Scientific Games Asia boss has high expectations for the long-awaited market once it does go live.
“You’ve got a couple of players on the world stage talking about spending $10b in Japan. Land and building are expensive in the region but $10b is a lot build a casino” he said ahead of this week’s conference.
The must-attend event will take place 16-17 May 2019 at the five-star Conrad Hotel in Tokyo, Japan.
The line-up of high profile and influential speakers includes; Japanese Liberal Democratic Party executive acting secretary-general Koichi Hagiuda, Goldman Sachs Japan vice president Masaru Sugiyama and Galaxy Entertainment Group president Michael Mecca.
